Vaping vs Oil: what’s the best way of taking CBD?

One of the many things we love about CBD is how many different ways there are of enjoying its wonderful effects. Two of the easiest ways of getting your daily CBD fix are by vaping it or using CBD oil - but which is best? Today, we’re going to compare these two CBD delivery formats and tell you everything you need to know about each of them.

But first, let’s have a quick recap of the factors to bear in mind when you’re trying to decide on the best method for you. These are the four main things to think about:

  1. How long it takes to feel CBD’s great effects
  2. How fast it’s absorbed in the bloodstream - known as its ‘bioavailability’
  3. How long it lasts before the effects start to wear off
  4. How easy it is to use - if you’re new to CBD, you’ll probably want to choose a method that’s easy to get started with and that makes it easy to experiment with the dosage.

With these factors considered, let’s take a look at CBD vaping and oil in more detail.

Vaping CBD: what you need to know

Vaping is a highly effective way of getting an immediate CBD hit, because it bypasses the digestive system and goes straight into your bloodstream via your lungs. It gets to work in less than a minute and there’s no fuss to get started. Different vape pens will contain different amounts of CBD, so read the packaging for dosage guidances.

If you’ve never tried smoking or vaping before, you might be nervous about the idea of using a vape pen for your CBD fix. Don’t be! While it may take a little bit of getting used to if you’re new to it, vaping is a fun way to feel the benefits of CBD. Although it’s not as discreet as other delivery methods, it’s easy to use when you’re on the go or when you find yourself in a stressful situation.

Our favourite way of vaping CBD is with the gorgeous Beboe Vape Pen, exclusively available in Europe from The Chillery. This calming blend of tasty citrus terpenes and pure, hemp-derived CBD work in harmony to give you the full entourage effect, and they come in a beautifully designed pen in chic rose gold. Simply inhale three puffs from this sleek and subtle pen when you’re feeling stressed and you’ll feel the fabulous effects of CBD, fast.

How to take CBD oil

The beauty of CBD oil is that it’s an incredibly versatile format, so there are loads of options you can try until you find the one that suits you best. For example, you can take a few drops of CBD oil:

  • Under your tongue (known as ‘sublingual’)
  • In your favourite drink or food
  • Directly applied to your skin (known as ‘topical’)

While ingesting CBD oil in drinks or food or applying it to your skin are both user-friendly introductions to CBD, and ideal if you’re worried about how it will taste or smell, you won’t feel as much of an effect if you take it this way. That’s because it takes longer for the CBD to be absorbed if it has to navigate your digestive system first, and if it’s applied topically, it won’t enter your bloodstream.

The most effective way to use CBD oil is to take it sublingually - under your tongue. This is a relatively simple method that gives you a fast dose of CBD that can get to work in as little as five minutes (though it could be up to half an hour before you feel its full effects). This format has high bioavailability, because the mucus membrane under your tongue helps absorb the CBD directly into your tissue and bloodstream, bypassing your digestive system. The effects can last anything between an hour and four hours.

As to the user-friendliness of this CBD usage format, it’s easy to use but can take some experimentation to find your dosage sweet spot (we’ve covered more advice on this in our CBD cheat sheet, but you can read more about the science behind it here). The actual act of putting drops of oil under your tongue and holding it there for 30 seconds may take some getting used to - and some people enjoy the taste more than others. There’s also the question of dosage; it can take a bit of trial and error before you find your perfect CBD ‘sweet spot’ when you’re using drops of oil, but starting at a minimum dose and keeping a diary of the effects as you gradually ramp up the dosage will help you figure out what works best for you.Ready to try CBD oil? Then we’d highly recommend Disciple Miracle Drops, made from pure, all-natural hemp oil available with 500mg or 1000mg of CBD. Perfect for stress relief, a better night’s sleep or even rejuvenating your skin, it’s a great product for CBD newbies and seasoned CBD afficionados alike.

So, what’s the best way of taking CBD?

Ultimately, vaping and oil are both great ways of getting your daily hit of CBD, and it comes down to personal preference which one provides an enjoyable and effective CBD experience for you. It depends what you’re looking for: if you need a fast-acting hit, you’ll probably get the quickest results from vaping, but if you’re looking for a more discreet method to enjoy your CBD and don’t necessarily mind too much about flavour, an oil format is a more subtle way of feeling the benefits. Why not try both and see which you prefer?
